Back at the office Carl was terrified of the door. Whenever it would
open he would run away or act very cautious. A couple of times I tried
to take him near the door but he ran away in terror. When I moved up to
Oregon though his habits have changed quite a bit. He got used to
riding in cars (because he had no choice) and he realized being outside
wasn't anything to be afraid of. Now instead of running away from the
door when it opens I find him trying to escape. I never thought I'd
live to see the day. He's managed to get out once, but he didn't go
far. He just wanted to smell the fresh air and see what was on the
other side. This is in stark contrast to when Belinda's dog, Petunia,
would escape and run away like her life depended on it.
What about your cat? Do they ever try to escape? Have they?
Hey guys. Trying out something new. Once in a while we'll post a quick
question for you guys to answer. At the end of the day we'll randomly
select one of the comments and will send them one of our new books!
This time around we're offering up our new Wet Cat book (which you can
find in our store here ). It couldn't be easier!
Today's question: What is your cat doing RIGHT NOW?! Or if you're not around your cat, what do you suspect it's up to?
I've
only ever owned two cats, Carl and Love. They've never met so I'm not
sure how they would have gotten along (one was at the office the other
was at home). If they ever did meet though my sneaking suspicion tells
me Love would have been annoyed with Carl. Love seems more of the
"don't bother me and I won't bother you" camp. Carl is more of the
"please be my best friend, for the love of god please like me" type.
Whenever Carl sees cats walking in front of our window he has as
pathetic desperate sounding meow as if to say "are you my new play
buddy?". Love on the other hand see's a cat walking by and would either
completely ignore them or defend her territory. What about your cats?
For a lot of the country it's already plenty dark and I'm sure there are trick or treaters running around all over the place by now. Here in the north west the sun will be setting within the next hour or two and All Hallows Eve will be in full effect. Belinda and I are planning on keeping it pretty low key. We're either going to catch a flick or hang low and give out candy. We haven't dressed up in a couple of years. Last time we did she went as Howdy Doody and I was a Lucha LIbre Lawyer.
Does your cat use a scratching pad? Did you have to train them?
I
decided to get Carl one of those refillable cardboard scratching pads.
At night he likes to spook himself out, chase invisible squirrels and
dig into the carpet with his claws. Just as I'm settling down at night
he's freaking out. Might as well get him something he's allowed to tear
to pieces, right?
So I unwrapped the thing, sprinkled catnip
all over it and let him have at it. Once again Carl proves my inability
to purchase stuff he'll actually use. He walked up to it, titled his
head ever so slightly, sniffed it...then walked away. I tried to teach
him by putting his paws on it and simulate him scratching. That hasn't
worked so Belinda tried acting out what you're supposed to do with it
in front of him. That didn't work either. In fact he may have been more
confused by that than anything else. It's even clearly labeled "cat
scratcher" on the side of it! Not sure what else we can do besides
repeat the previous steps. Perhaps to emphasize it's function I should
underline "cat scratcher" and add an exclamation point with a sharpie.
So when was the last time your cat drove you nuts or did something bad? The reason I ask is because Carl is acting absolutely CRAZY right now. He's extremely hyper, running around all over the place and is making all sorts of noises. It's pretty fun to watch but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up knocking over one of my non-existent Chinese vases. As I type this I'm halfway expecting to hear a crash in the background. Fortunately for us my free standing antique porcelain collection is kept at a maximum of zero pieces. So what about you guys?
I hope your weekend has treated you well s far. What have you been up to? Or are going to be up to? Any hot dates? Working? Give me
the low down. As for myself? Just finished catching a flick and doing
some laundry. Gonna wait until Belinda gets out of school then we'll
most likely grab a bite to eat and figure out something to do from
there. A pretty relaxing weekend, overall. How about you guys, any big
plans?
Do you have an inside cat? Are they cooped up all day looking out the
window wishing they had just a small whiff of freedom? If they busted
out of the big house for a day what do you think they would do? What
adventures would they go on? Where would the day lead them?

Carl going outside would be like taking a country kid who has never
left home and dropping them right in the middle of New York City.
Carl's lack of street smarts and innocent face makes him an easy target
for hustlers. Our guess is Carl will try to explore the city only to be
taken for everything he has playing a game of three card monte. Being the naive optimist he is it will take him several days to realize he was taken advantage of.

Rhondie is Belinda's cat and boy is she a feisty one. She's so
charismatic and evil we can picture her doing a number of things. Our
suspicions lead us to believe her good looks will have her flirting her
way up the inner workings of a illustrious crime family. She'll more
than likely seduce an important mob boss and then stab him in the back
as soon as she's gained his trust. Her motivation? Boredom.
- Grilled Cheese (also Belinda's cat) would find the nearest buffet and won't leave until she's kicked out.
